The Dorset Half of Stupid Hills

The inaugural 'PMO half marathon contest' took place on Saturday in Dorset. It was only this because I shot my mouth off to Dave at work and turned it into a showdown. Which, with him having a 10k time of nigh on 40mins, wasn't my finest decision.

The race was part of the Coastal Trail Series and of five possible levels of difficulty, this one was a five. And it lived up to the billing, exceeding my expectations. Asked afterwards if it was the hardest thing I've ever done, I'd have to say no, but top tier and up there with the hardest three hours I've had. The hills were seriously steep and the 3,800ft of ascent really did me in - I think I actually bonked, which hasn't happened for a while.

After 3hrs and 9min, Dave beat me by all of 70 seconds. But hey, he threw up afterwards. In fact we both felt pretty terrible afterwards and I think I did it as fast as I possibly could have. Although it didn't feel like my fastest day.  I can 127th of 421 so 30th percentile. Satisfactory. James and Lee came in soon after.

I think I've gone beyond DOMS and actually strained my quads. Ran to work yesterday, very slowly, but had to be picked up to get home!

Apparently the scenery was stunning.
Note the trail of people, for scale
